Mile 17.4: Stop 18

E1 has just met the C&B steamship, 'City of Ohio', at the dock in Port Stanley and is rushing two boxcars of express freight and transfer baggage up to London. Here we find it just as it crosses Yarmouth Township concession road 6 with Provincial Highway 4 in the distance. This tranquil scene changed drastically during World War 2 when the Canadian Royal Air Force Technical School was built here. Most recruits travelled to and from the facility via the L&PS and when the trainees were given leave time to unwind, the L&PS carried them to parties and dances in London and at the Port. A small community grew up around the training facility and the community continued to thrive even though the training school closed shortly after the war. Today, most residents have long forgotten why their community is called Crafts.
